Controls Engineer

This position works with the Design Engineering Team to develop practical electrical solutions for various new and existing products and processes. This is a flexible, versatile role that blends a variety of knowledge and experiences in addition to typical Electrical Engineering functions. This role also provides a mix of working in the office along with hands-on product development in the R&D Lab and Manufacturing.

The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

·        Lead the design, analysis, and implementation of electrical and design engineering projects by inventing creative solutions, devising evaluation procedures, monitoring tests, documenting findings, making recommendations, and finalizing for hand-off

·        Deliver product, process, and technology solutions that achieve an optimal balance between design intent, manufacturing efficiencies, material and labor utilization, repeatability, performance, safety, quality, and cost

·        Ensure electrical-related product compliance with all standards, codes, listing agencies, and customer requirements

·        Maintain electrical equipment, instruments, and components

·        Diagnose electrical issues and provide solutions

·        Complete a wide variety of engineering projects that are both related and unrelated to Electrical Engineering

·        Perform work in an office setting along with hands-on product development in the R&D Lab and Manufacturing

·        Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to bring together the expertise and skillsets necessary to keep projects moving forward

·        Provide material, labor, cost, and feature/benefit analyses for project evaluation and implementation

·        Work to resolve any issues that arise during projects

·        Create relevant plans, procedures, documents, reports, and forms to support the development process and define best practices

·        Propose engineering, manufacturing, and installation standards and specifications

·        Help with the hand-off and implementation of new and improved technologies, products, and processes

·        Ensure projects meet intended goals, are completed on time, on budget, and within scope

·        Investigate and propose equipment and materials to support current and future projects

·        Suggest and support employee training tools and procedures

·        Work closely with technicians, engineers, and production personnel to support a wide variety of other projects and business needs


·        Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related Technical Discipline (equivalent work experience will also be considered in lieu of degree)

·        Proven understanding and application of electrical engineering equipment and principles, such as ladder logic, programming languages, automation systems, Variable Frequency Drives, UL listing files, National Electric Code, and CB schemes

·        Experience applying Electrical Engineering principles in a Manufacturing environment

·        Ability and desire to work both in the office and hands-on in the factory/R&D Lab

·        Ability and desire to work on a variety of engineering projects both related and unrelated to Electrical Engineering

·        Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, logical reasoning, and understanding of units of measure

·        Proven ability to use common shop tools, measuring devices, test equipment, and lab tools, such as CNCs, screw guns, saws, drills, routers, calipers, tape measures, gauges, meters, sensors, etc.

·        Working knowledge, understanding, and application of engineering, manufacturing, and quality best practices and processes, such as FMEA and Design for Manufacturing

·        Familiarity with the practical application of the following is a plus: physical connectivity methods, structural mechanics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer

·        Willingness to work overtime and/or travel when necessary to complete a project

·        Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain ideas both visually and verbally

·        Creative and inventive problem solver

·        Strong follow through and willingness to take responsibility for tasks through to completion

·        Positive attitude, with a desire to learn and improve every day

·        Thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, collaborative, team-focused environment

·        Microsoft suite of products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and especially Excel)

·        Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM software, and 3D scanning is a plus

Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:00pm with an hour unpaid lunch & Friday 8:00am-12:00pm
