CAD Surface Designer/Reverse Engineer





As the CAD Modeler/Reverse Engineer at Master Spas, the world's leading manufacturer of hot tubs, swim spas, and cold tubs, you will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering. This position is responsible for developing and modeling various components and assemblies of a spa. The individual will work with our CAD software to create concepts and design new parts, modify existing designs, and perform reverse engineering of existing physical spa shells or parts using point cloud data.

The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Considered to be an expert in 3D CAD, with a specific expertise in 3D modeling, and processing point cloud data acquired from 3D scanning devices
  • Clean and prepare point cloud data for modeling
  • Create accurate 3D models from point cloud data using reverse engineering techniques
  • Provide concepts of various parts of a spa including but not limited to the spa shell, frame, fittings, fastener interactions, etc.
  • Consider current designs, then work with Manufacturing and Marketing to create concepts of future designs
  • Develop detailed drawings and specifications from 3D models
  • Take vetted concepts of spa components, cabinets, etc. and work with the Design Engineering team to turn them into a final, manufacturable product that meets the expectations of the various department’s goals, and the customers’ expectations
  • Use of 3D scanner to create quality point cloud data
  • Manage expectations from various company departments to create new designs that account for as much consideration or improvement as possible. 
  • Time management is paramount. Being able to commit to deadlines and meet those commitments is critical, even when given little design direction.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, product design, industrial design or related field
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on delivering high-quality results that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Proficient using prototyping equipment (3D printers, 3D scanners and CNC machines) a plus
  • Comfortable using design software (we use NX and SOLIDWORKS)
  • Excellent collaboration and a team-focused mentality

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding FRP tool design incorporating various manufacturing process going from a CAD file to a CNC machined part, to a final mold a plus
  • Manufacturing in processes specializing in thermoforming acrylic and ABS is a plus

Full Time

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Thursday 7a-5p with a 1 hour unpaid lunch, and Friday 8a-12p
