Design Engineering Manager





As the Design Engineering Manager at Master Spas, the world's leading manufacturer of hot tubs, swim spas, and cold tubs, you will report directly to the Vice President of Engineering. In this role you will be responsible for leading and managing a diverse team in the design, development, and improvement of innovative and high-quality spa, swim spa and cold tub products. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a passion for creating exceptional customer experiences.

The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead and manage a design engineering team, including hiring, training and mentoring. A culture of working as a team and a high sense of urgency is critical to success at Master Spas.
  • Oversee the entire product development lifecycle, from concept and design through prototyping, testing and launch.
  • Develop and implement design strategies and processes to ensure product quality, manufacturability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Nurture our current product development process with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, purchasing, marketing, customer service and sales, to ensure smooth product development and successful launches.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct and oversee product testing and validation to ensure compliance with safety standards and performance requirements.
  • Oversee engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and test reports.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality and performance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a versatile engineering background, to be effective at managing various engineering disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in product design
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a leadership role
  • Proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams
  • Strong technical expertise in areas such as:
  • Fluid dynamics
  • Plastics and composite materials
  • Manufacturing processes such as injection molding, thermoforming, etc.
  • SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software a plus
  • Must have excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, while balancing practical thinking and the needs of other departments and the company as a whole.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team to achieve challenging goals.
  • Experience in the spa or recreational products industry is a plus.

SCHEDULE:

Monday-Thursday 7a-5p with a 1-hour unpaid lunch, and Friday 8a-12p

Based on experience.
